Our name playfully evokes the Old English term wordhord (word-hoard) which is the treasure-chest of words that the poet in Beowulf opens up (metaphorically) to compose and recite his poetry in the hall of his lord. This word conjures up the image of a chest full of gold and jewels, implying that words are precious and powerful.

Not all gems are dazzling at first: they need to be cut and polished in order to shine. This is what we do with the hordes of words that our clients entrust to us, whether they be in a short story, a novel, an article or a piece of academic writing. We can polish up the words of a final draft for submission to publishers; we can help you craft a clearer grant proposal; we can restructure an article to make it more persuasive. If English is not your first language, we can reshape your prose into the style that a native English speaker would use.
Let us help you make your writing the best it can be.

Fantastic experience
Joanne was an integral part of the Professional Editorial Standards 2024 team in her role as the proofreader. She delivered high-quality work while always meeting her deadlines and remaining flexible throughout the project to meet changing needs. I would happily work with her again and fully recommend her.
